After a brief hiatus in competition, VC Montpellier re-started their campaign within the OCM calender during season 19. A rise to the 5th division re-opened manager R Cleaver's eyes as to the lack of results accrued by any rider other than Van Kamp. As Van Kamp is nearing the potential end of his career, training and progression of other riders were vital.
With a significant lack of funds to find any new riders, or to train any, the decision to let Arne Naessens go to a better suited team was made. Unfortunately, due to a cock-up on R Cleaver's behalf, he didn't end up in the right team, but he did leave for a price tag of 125,000.
In his place, recruited just last night, Mathieu Weyland, also from Belgium, joined the team.
Coupled with the continued progression of Edwin "powerhouse" Veenhuis, and the planned expansion of Kendrick Lucado's hilly abilities, coupled with Kerwin Fischbach's flat abilities, a rise to Division 4 is the aim.
Weyland is the particularly exciting prospect, as he is the first rider to have joined the team with potential to excel above average in both climbing and on the flat. Whilst his hilly abilities certainly lack a certain skill, his technical and downhill abilities should see him surpass Naessen's levels.
Or so we hope.
